Retail mode: shop wording, no restaurant screens
Retail Mode is one switch in SeroPOS settings that turns the till into a shop counter: restaurant screens disappear and the home screen becomes a single New Sale button.
Retail mode in SeroPOS
One New Sale button
The dine-in, take away and delivery cards are replaced with a single New Sale button, so every sale starts the same way.
Restaurant features hidden
Tables, service types, kitchen tickets, KOT Mapping, food-type dots, Kiosk, KDS and the Floor Plan Designer drop out of the menus.
Shop wording
Labels speak retail, so the Admin hub talks about your store and catalog rather than your restaurant.
Scan and pay
Scan with a USB scanner or the camera, adjust quantities, and take cash, card or a custom tender at checkout.
Same payments and reports
Card terminals, split tender, returns, register shifts and the daily sales report all work as they do in restaurant mode.
Switch back any time
Retail Mode is a toggle in Settings. Turn it off and the restaurant screens come back with your data untouched.
A till that speaks retail
SeroPOS started life in restaurants, and its default screens show tables, kitchen tickets and order types. A shop does not need any of that. Retail Mode hides the restaurant parts of the app and changes the wording, so a boutique, convenience store or hardware shop gets a clean counter screen without menus it will never use.
Turn it on in Settings with the Retail Mode switch. The home screen loses its dine-in, take away and delivery cards and shows a single New Sale button instead; on phones the start button reads Sell. The Admin hub subtitle changes to talk about your store, and every staff member on that till sees the same simplified layout.
What Retail Mode hides
Retail Mode removes the screens and buttons that only make sense in food service. Nothing is deleted: the data stays in your account, and the features return when you switch the mode off. This keeps the drawer menu short and stops new cashiers tapping into kitchen or table screens by mistake. It also makes training simpler, because the only path through the till is the one a shop actually uses.
Online and web orders from your catalogue still arrive through the cloud icon, so a shop that sells through a QR or web catalogue keeps its order queue. Only the food delivery platform bell is hidden, because it is a restaurant feature. The list below shows everything Retail Mode takes off the screen.
- Tables and the table grid
- Types of service (dine-in, take away, delivery)
- Kitchen tickets (KOT) and KOT Mapping
- Veg and non-veg food-type dots
- Kiosk Mode and KDS Mode
- Floor Plan Designer and KDS Cleanup
- The food delivery platform order bell
Checkout built around scanning
Retail sales usually start with a barcode. Plug a USB or keyboard-wedge scanner into the till and each scan into the search field adds the matching SKU to the cart. Phones and tablets can also scan with the built-in camera. Products with sizes or colours ask which variation to add, and open-price items ask for a price at the counter.
When the basket is ready, take payment with cash, a connected card terminal, a cheque or any custom tender you have set up. Split one sale across several tenders, take a deposit and leave a balance due, or charge a trusted customer's account up to their credit limit. Receipts print automatically or on request, with your logo and footer.
Everything else still works
Retail Mode changes the front of the till, not the back office. Products, categories, variations, taxes and price groups are still managed in the Admin hub or the web back office. Returns use the Return toggle on a cart line or a refund from Recent Transactions, and voids run on the card terminal when the sale was paid by card.
Open and close the register each shift with a cash float and a counted total, and print the daily sales report at the end of the day. Layout choices such as product button colours, QSR Mode on larger screens and the 30 app themes are all available in Retail Mode, so you can tune the counter to your store.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn on Retail Mode in SeroPOS?
Open the side drawer, go to Settings and turn on the Retail Mode switch. The home screen changes to a single New Sale button and the restaurant screens are hidden. Turn the switch off at any time to bring them back; no products or sales are lost.
Does Retail Mode cost extra?
No. Retail Mode is a setting in the app, not a separate plan or add-on. It works on both the Standard plan at $30 a month and the Pro plan at $50 a month, and during the 14-day free trial.
Can I still use a card terminal in Retail Mode?
Yes. Integrated terminals from Global Payments, Moneris and Gravity Payments work the same way in Retail Mode. The amount goes to the terminal, the result comes back to the till, and card refunds and voids run on the terminal too.
Can I use QSR Mode and Retail Mode together?
Yes. On a tablet or desktop you can keep QSR Mode on for its dense product grid and inline pay buttons while Retail Mode hides the restaurant features. The two settings are independent, and QSR Mode takes priority for the sale screen layout.
Does Retail Mode print barcode labels?
The SeroPOS app does not print labels. Barcode labels are printed from the web back office, where you choose products and quantities, pick a sticker sheet size and preview the labels before printing them on your label printer. Scanners at the till then read those barcodes.
