Product variations in SeroPOS

Variation groups

Create groups such as Size or Color with their values once, then reuse them on any product.

Price per variation

Each variation has its own selling price and cost, set in the variation prices table on the product.

SKU per variation

Give every variation its own SKU so a scan adds the exact version the customer chose.

Choose at the till

Tapping the product opens Select Variation, where staff pick the size or option, or skip it.

Buttons in QSR Mode

In QSR Mode each variation can show as its own button, such as Burger - L, for one-tap ordering.

On the kiosk too

Self-order guests choose a variation on the item sheet before adding it to their order.

One product, many versions

A coffee comes in three sizes. A T-shirt comes in five sizes and four colours. Setting each one up as a separate product makes the till crowded and reports hard to read. Variations solve this: you create one product and attach the versions it comes in, each with its own price and SKU, and the till asks which one the customer wants.

Variation groups are set up once, in the Admin hub under Variation Groups or in the back office under Variations. A group has a name, such as Size or Color, and a list of values. When you add a product, choose the With variations type, pick a group, and the product form lists every value so you can fill in prices.

Prices, costs and SKUs

The product form shows a variation prices table with a row for each value. Enter the selling price for each, and the cost if you track margins, so a large latte can cost more than a small one and reports show the true profit on each. Taxes are set on the product, so every variation follows the same tax rule.

Each variation can also carry its own SKU. Retailers use this to scan the exact size and colour off the tag, and the stock count for each variation is kept separately in the back office. If you leave SKUs blank, SeroPOS creates them for you, so you can still find each variation by searching.

Picking a variation at the till

On the standard sale screen and on phones, tapping a product with variations opens Select Variation with the prompt to choose a size or option. Staff tap the one the customer asked for and it goes into the cart with its own price. A Skip Selection option is there for the rare case where the base product is enough.

If the product also has modifiers, the modifier sheet opens straight after, so a large coffee can get oat milk and an extra shot in one flow. Scanning a variation's own SKU adds that exact version, which keeps retail checkouts quick. Each line in the cart shows the variation name, so the receipt and the kitchen ticket say Large Latte rather than just Latte, and the customer can check they got what they asked for.

Variations as buttons in QSR Mode

Quick-service counters often want every size visible at once. In QSR Mode each variation can expand into its own button on the grid, labelled with the product and variation, such as Burger - L. A cashier taps the exact item once instead of opening a pop-up, which saves a step on every order during a rush.

You can arrange those buttons like any other: drag them into cells on a drag-placed grid, colour them, or make a best-selling size double height. Kiosk Mode takes the opposite approach for guests, showing the product once and asking them to select a variation on the item sheet, with the price of each option shown.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a variation and a modifier?

A variation is a version of the product with its own price and SKU, such as a size or colour, and the customer picks exactly one. A modifier is an add-on or choice on top, such as extra cheese or no onions, and customers can pick several. SeroPOS supports both on the same product.

Can each variation have a different price?

Yes. When the product type is With variations, the product form shows a variation prices table with a selling price and cost for each value. A small, medium and large can each have their own price, and reports show sales for each one.

Can I scan a barcode for a specific size or colour?

Yes. Give each variation its own SKU and scanning that barcode adds the exact variation to the cart. This is how clothing and shoe stores ring up the right size and colour from the tag, and it keeps the stock count for each size accurate.

Where do I set up variation groups?

In the SeroPOS app, open Admin and choose Variation Groups. In the web back office, go to Products and then Variations. Create a group such as Size with values like Small, Medium and Large, then pick it when you add a product with variations.

Do variations show as separate buttons on the till?

In QSR Mode they can. Each variation expands into its own button, such as Burger - L, so staff tap it directly. On the standard sale screen and on phones, the product shows once and Select Variation asks which version to add.
