Building modifier groups
A modifier group is a named list of choices with prices, such as Pizza Toppings with Pepperoni at $1.50 and Extra Cheese at $1.00, or Cooking with Rare, Medium and Well Done at no charge. Create groups in the Admin hub under Modifier Groups, or in the web back office under Modifiers, where you can also add a food type and an image to each option.
Attach groups to products on the product form; there is a New group shortcut if the group you need does not exist yet. A burger might carry Toppings, Sides and Doneness, while a coffee carries Milk and Extra Shot. One group can be reused across many products, so a price change to an add-on only needs to be made once.
Taking modifiers at the till
When staff add a product that has modifiers, the Choose modifiers sheet opens with every option and its price. They tick what the customer wants and confirm, or skip if nothing is needed. On phones, cancelling the sheet removes the line that was just added, so there are no half-built items in the cart.
Chosen modifiers appear as chips under the cart line, and each chip can be removed on its own if the customer changes their mind. Paid modifiers add to the line total, so the price on screen always matches what was ordered. Staff can also add a free-text note or special instruction from Edit Item for anything the modifier list does not cover.
Modifiers in QSR and Kiosk Mode
QSR Mode is built for speed, so the modifier pop-up is a choice. Turn on Modifier Popup in QSR Settings if most of your items need choices, or leave it off and add modifiers only when asked. That lets a coffee bar ring up a plain drip coffee in one tap while still handling a custom latte when needed.
In Kiosk Mode, guests see modifier groups on the item sheet with each group marked Required or Free. Marking a group such as the side for a combo as Required tells guests they need to choose one, so the kitchen gets complete orders. Guests can edit an item from the order summary before paying.
Getting it right in the kitchen
Every modifier prints on the kitchen order ticket under its item, so the cook sees 'Burger, no onion, extra cheese, well done' on one line rather than guessing. If you route tickets with KOT Mapping, modifiers follow their item to the right station, and on a kitchen display they show under the item on the ticket card.
After service, the daily sales report lists modifier sales in its Add-ons section, so you can see how many extra shots or extra cheeses sold and what they earned. That makes it easy to spot add-ons worth promoting, and to check that paid extras are actually being charged at the counter rather than given away.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add modifiers to a product in SeroPOS?
Create a modifier group with its options and prices in Admin under Modifier Groups, or in the back office under Modifiers. Then open the product, add the group in the modifier groups section and save. The modifier sheet opens next time staff add that product.
Can modifiers have a price?
Yes. Each option in a modifier group has its own price, which can be zero. Paid options add their price to the cart line and print with it on the receipt. Free options such as cooking preferences cost nothing but still print for the kitchen.
Do modifiers print on the kitchen ticket?
Yes. Every modifier chosen at the till or kiosk prints on the kitchen order ticket under its item and follows the item through KOT Mapping to the right kitchen printer. On a kitchen display, modifiers show under the item on its ticket.
Can I make a modifier group required?
In Kiosk Mode, groups are shown to guests marked Required or Free, so they know which choices they need to make. At the staff till, the modifier sheet opens automatically but staff can skip it, since they can ask the customer directly.
Can I see which modifiers sell the most?
Yes. The daily sales report in the app and in the back office includes a section for add-ons or modifiers, showing quantities and sales for each one over the period you choose. Use it to price popular extras and spot ones nobody orders.
