Daily sales report with tax summary
The daily sales report in the SeroPOS back office splits each day's takings into net sales, GST and PST, order types, categories, modifiers and tenders, and the same report can land in your inbox as a PDF after closing.
Daily sales report in SeroPOS
Sales breakdown with tax
Net sales, GST, PST and total including tax sit side by side, with each line's share of the day's sales.
Tax summary for remittance
A tax summary section adds up the tax collected for the period, which is the figure you set aside for filing.
Sales by category
Categories are totalled with a drill-down, so a busy category can be opened to see what sold inside it.

Payment methods, tips, discounts applied and additional charges each get their own section.
Nightly PDF by email

What's on the daily sales report
Open Reports, then Daily Sales Report in the back office, choose a location and a date range, and the report builds in sections. It reads the same sales your tills record, so one day or a whole month can be looked at the same way. Every section uses the location and dates you picked.
The headings follow Canadian practice, with GST and PST shown as separate columns rather than a single tax figure. That makes the report easy to hand to a bookkeeper who files by tax type. Each section can be checked on its own, and the totals at the top give you the figures most owners look at first: net sales, tax and total including tax.
- Sales Breakdown: net, GST, PST, total incl. tax, % of sales
- Additional Charges
- Tax Summary for remittance
- Orders by Type and Tips
- Sales by Category, with drill-down
- Product Taxes and Payment Methods
- Sales by Modifier and Discounts Applied
- Boxes/Containers Count
The nightly email
Most owners don't want to log in every night to see how the day went. In Settings, Business Locations, each location has a field for the emails to send the report to and a day end or closing time. Once those are filled in, the daily sales report is emailed as a PDF to those addresses at closing time.
The same settings can be changed from the SeroPOS app under Edit Store, where you set the report email recipients and the send time. Add your own address, a manager's and your bookkeeper's, and everyone starts the next morning with the same numbers. Recipients are set per location, so a manager only gets the report for their own store.
Reading categories, modifiers and containers
Sales by Category shows which parts of the menu or store carried the day. Click into a category with the drill-down and you can see the items behind its total. Sales by Modifier does the same for add-ons such as extra cheese or an extra shot, which are easy to forget when pricing a menu.
Boxes/Containers Count is there for takeout-heavy kitchens. It helps you see how much packaging went out the door, which is useful when you set a packing charge on a type of service or reorder containers before the weekend. The count comes from the same sales as the rest of the report, so it covers exactly the location and dates you picked.
Tax and payments for the bookkeeper
The Tax Summary for remittance and the Product Taxes section show how much GST and PST were collected and on which products. For a month or a quarter, set the date range to the filing period and print the report or download the PDF. For input tax on purchases and expenses, use the separate tax report.
Payment Methods lists what came in by tender for the period. Comparing it with your card processor's deposits and your bank's cash deposits is a quick way to spot a missing batch or an unbanked day. Discounts Applied sits nearby, so you can also see how much was given away in discounts over the same dates.
Daily sales report or Z report
The Z report on the till is for the person closing up: it covers the shift, prints on the receipt printer and checks the drawer. The daily sales report in the back office is for the owner and the books: it covers any date range, any location, and goes out by email or as a PDF.
Both read the same sales, so the totals agree. Many owners print the Z report at the till every night and keep the emailed daily PDFs as the record they file away. If the two ever seem to differ, check that both cover the same location and the same dates and times, since the till's custom range and the back office's date range are set separately.
Frequently asked questions
What should a restaurant daily sales report include?
At minimum: net sales, tax collected, total including tax, sales by category, payment methods, discounts and tips. The SeroPOS daily sales report also shows orders by type, sales by modifier, additional charges and a containers count, with GST and PST in their own columns.
How do I get the daily sales report emailed every night?
In the back office, go to Settings, Business Locations and edit the location. Fill in Emails to send report with one or more addresses, and set the Day end / closing time. The report is then emailed as a PDF at that time. You can also set recipients and send time in the app under Edit Store.
Can I run the report for a week or a month?
Yes. The back office version takes a location and any date range, so you can run a single day, a week, a month or a filing period. Download it as a PDF or send it by email from the report screen once it has loaded.
Does it show sales by category?
Yes. Sales by Category totals each category for the period, and a drill-down opens a category to show the items that made up its total. Sales by Modifier does the same for add-ons, so you can see which extras sold.
Is this a daily sales report template I can fill in?
No, it isn't a blank template. SeroPOS builds the report from the sales your tills record, so the figures fill themselves in. If you currently copy totals into a spreadsheet each night, the emailed PDF replaces that step, and you can still download it to keep with your own files.
