Several menus, one till
Run a breakfast menu in the morning, lunch at noon and a catering list for big orders, all on the same till, with staff switching between them from the top of the screen.
Multiple POS menus in SeroPOS
Named menus
Create as many POS menus as you need in the back office, such as Breakfast, Lunch, Catering or Delivery.
Mapped to categories
Each menu shows only the categories you map to it, so staff see a short, relevant list.
One default menu
Mark one menu as the default and the till opens on it.
Menu pills to switch
When two or more menus exist, pills on the app bar let staff switch menus with one tap.
Same products, no duplicates
Menus group your existing categories, so a product shared by two menus is set up once.
Works in retail too
Shops can use menus for seasonal ranges or a separate counter list.
Why use more than one menu
A café that serves breakfast until eleven does not want lunch mains cluttering the grid at seven in the morning. A restaurant with a catering business wants trays and platters kept away from the dine-in screen. A single long list of categories slows staff down and makes mistakes more likely, especially for new hires who do not yet know where everything lives.
Multiple POS menus let you build focused lists from the categories you already have. Each menu is a named selection of categories, and the till shows only those categories while that menu is active. Products are not copied, so a coffee that appears on both the breakfast and lunch menus is still one product with one price and one stock record.
Setting up menus in the back office
Menus are created in the web back office, on the Multiple Menus screen (also called POS Menus). Give each menu a name, such as Breakfast, All Day, Lunch, Catering or Delivery, and choose the categories that belong on it. Mark one menu as the default; that is the menu the till opens on and returns to.
Categories can sit on more than one menu, so a Drinks category can appear on every list while Breakfast Plates appears on only one. Category settings such as Hide in POS still apply. When you save, the menus sync to every till with the rest of your catalogue, so there is nothing to set up on each device.
- Name the menu
- Pick its categories
- Set one menu as default
- Save and let the tills sync
Switching menus at the till
Once two or more menus exist, menu pills appear on the app bar at the top of the sale screen. Staff tap Breakfast, Lunch or Catering and the category panel changes to that menu's categories at once. The cart is not affected, so a cashier can switch menus in the middle of an order to add an item from another list.
With only one menu, the pills stay hidden and the till behaves as it always has. That means you can try menus without changing anything for staff until you are ready, then add the second menu when you want the switch to appear. Removing a menu later simply takes its pill away.
Ideas for using menus
Restaurants usually split menus by daypart or by channel: breakfast, lunch and dinner; or dine-in, takeout and catering. Bars often keep a short late-night list. Food trucks and event caterers build a menu for each event, with only the items they are serving that day, and switch to it on arrival.
Retailers can use the same idea for seasonal ranges or a holiday list, or to keep a short counter menu of fast sellers separate from the full catalogue that staff search when needed. Because menus are only a view over your categories, you can add or retire one in the back office at any time without touching your products.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set up a breakfast and lunch menu in SeroPOS?
In the web back office, open the Multiple Menus screen and add a Breakfast menu and a Lunch menu. Pick the categories each should show and mark one as the default. After the tills sync, menu pills appear on the app bar so staff can switch between them.
Do I need to duplicate products for each menu?
No. Menus are made of categories you already have, so a product appears on every menu whose categories include it. Its price, tax, modifiers and stock stay in one place, and a change to the product shows on every menu.
Can staff switch menus in the middle of an order?
Yes. Tapping a menu pill changes the categories shown but leaves the cart alone, so a cashier can add a breakfast item and a lunch item to the same order. The order is paid, printed and reported as normal, with every item under its own category.
Why can't I see the menu pills on my till?
The pills only appear when the business has two or more POS menus. If you have created a second menu, open the side drawer and run Sync DataBase so the till picks up the change. With a single menu the till shows all categories as usual.
Can different menus have different prices?
Menus control which categories are shown, not prices. To charge different prices for the same item, for example on delivery, use a selling price group on that type of service. The price group then applies whichever menu staff are using.
