POS for cafeterias
A school, hospital or workplace cafeteria serves the same people every day, in short windows, often on an account rather than a card. SeroPOS switches the till from breakfast to lunch with one tap, rings trays quickly, and charges staff or students to an account with a credit limit you control.
Cafeterias in SeroPOS
Breakfast and lunch menus
Multiple POS menus switch with a pill at the top of the till, so each service shows only its items.
Quantity First checkout
Key the number, then tap the item, for trays of identical sides and drinks.
Charge to an account
The Credit tender puts a sale on the customer's account and checks it against their credit limit.
Staff and student pricing
Customer groups apply a percentage price change or their own price group automatically.
Statements and payments
Email account statements and record payments against open balances in the back office.
Salad bar by weight
Weigh salad bar containers on a connected scale and price them per unit of weight.
A menu for each service
Cafeterias run breakfast, lunch and sometimes an afternoon snack service, each with a different line-up. Create a POS menu for each in the back office from your categories. When two or more exist, pills at the top of the till switch between them, so at 11 a.m. the cashier taps Lunch and the eggs and breakfast sandwiches disappear from the screen.
Categories can also be hidden in the POS without deleting them, which suits a weekly rotating hot entrée. On the quick-service grid, colour each station's items, such as the grill, the deli and the drinks cooler, so cashiers find them by colour. The layout saves to the server and loads on every till.
Fast trays at the till
A cafeteria line moves at the pace of the cashier. Quantity First lets staff key 2 and tap Milk for two cartons, and the pay buttons sit in the same row. Items with a barcode, such as bottled drinks and packaged snacks, can be scanned with a USB scanner or the device camera. Weighed items like the salad bar read their weight from a connected scale.
Pay buttons can be enlarged for touchscreens, and up to seven custom tenders can be added for things like meal vouchers or a departmental code. Each tender is reported on its own line on the Daily Sales Report, so the voucher total is ready for whoever reconciles it at the end of the month.
Charge accounts for staff and students
Give each account holder a customer profile with a contact number and, if needed, a customer group. Set a credit limit on the customer in the back office. At the till, look them up by name or phone, ring the tray and choose Credit as the payment mode. The sale goes on their account, and the till refuses with Not Enough Credit Available if it would pass the limit.
Customer groups apply pricing automatically: a percentage off the selling price for staff, or a selling price group for subsidized student meals. Pick the customer before ringing the tray: the till will not switch customers while the cart has items, which stops a charge landing on the wrong account. The Sell Payment Report can be filtered by customer group to see each group's spending.
Balances, statements and payments
Each customer's ledger in the back office shows every charge and payment with a running balance, for any date range. Send the ledger by email as a statement, and use Pay due to record a payment against the account. Receive Payment lists open invoices by customer with their age and balance, and the receivables ageing report shows which accounts are overdue.
Pay terms can be set per customer in days or months, so departmental accounts settled monthly show the right due dates. The Payment Reminder template emails a reminder when a balance is due. For businesses that bill a department instead of individuals, one customer account per department keeps the paperwork to a single statement.
Frequently asked questions
Can staff or students charge meals to an account?
Yes. Use the Credit payment mode at the till to put the sale on the customer's account. Each customer can have a credit limit, and the till refuses the sale with a Not Enough Credit Available message if it would exceed that limit.
Can I switch between breakfast and lunch menus?
Yes. Create a POS menu for each service from your categories in the back office. When two or more menus exist, pills at the top of the till switch between them with one tap, and each menu shows only its own categories.
Can different groups pay different prices?
Yes. Create customer groups with either a percentage price change or a selling price group, and assign customers to them. When a customer from that group is selected on the till, their group pricing applies to the sale automatically. Test your groups during the 14-day trial.
How do I send account holders a statement?
Open the customer in the back office and view their ledger for a date range, then send it by email. Payments are recorded with Pay due or through Receive Payment, and the receivables ageing report lists overdue balances by age.
Can SeroPOS take meal vouchers?
Yes, as a custom payment method. Add up to seven custom tenders in Payment Methods, such as Meal Voucher, and they appear beside Cash, Debit and Credit. Each is reported separately on the Daily Sales Report and in the payment reports in the back office.
