Quantity first, then the item
When a customer orders six of something, Quantity First lets the cashier type 6, tap the item once and move on, instead of tapping the same button six times.
Quantity first checkout in SeroPOS
QTY key beside pay
The Quantity First layout puts a QTY key next to Cash, Debit and Credit under the cart.
Number, then item
Enter the quantity, tap the product, and the line goes in with that quantity in one step.
Built into QSR Mode
Turn on Quantity First under Quantity Entry in QSR Settings on a tablet or desktop till.
Hold on the dial
In this layout Hold moves to the floating dial, keeping the button rows short.
Adjustable keypad size
Long-press the quantity keypad's header to make it Normal, Large or Extra Large on that till.
Ask quantity per button
Any product button can also be set to ask for a quantity every time it is tapped.
Fewer taps on repeat items
Coffee runs, office lunch orders, a dozen doughnuts, a round of drinks: counters ring up the same item many times in one order. Tapping a button six times works, but it is slow and easy to miscount when the line is long. Quantity First flips the order of entry. The cashier types the number first, then taps the item, and the line goes into the cart with the right quantity.
It is a layout choice inside QSR Mode, so it suits quick-service counters, cafés, bakeries and bars that already use the dense QSR grid. Turn it on in QSR Settings under Quantity Entry. The setting saves to the server with your other QSR Settings, so every QSR till in the business can use the same layout.
The Quantity First layout
With Quantity First on, the row under the cart total reads Cash, Debit, Credit and QTY. The row beneath holds More, Delivery, Split and Print. Hold moves to the floating action dial, which keeps the bottom of the screen to two tidy rows and leaves more room for products on the grid. More still shows any custom tenders you have set up, such as E-Transfer.
Tap QTY to bring up the quantity keypad, enter the number, then tap a product on the grid. After a line is in the cart, you can still tap its Qty column to open the slide-up keypad and change it, or swipe the line away to remove it. The total updates with every change.
- Top row: Cash, Debit, Credit, QTY
- Second row: More, Delivery, Split, Print
- Hold: on the floating dial
Sizing the keys for your screen
Counter screens range from a 10-inch tablet to a 24-inch touchscreen, so one size of button does not suit every till. Long-press Cash, Debit or Credit for Payment Button Size, long-press Hold, Delivery, Adjust, Split or Print for Bottom Button Size, and long-press the keypad's header for Quantity Keypad Size, which sets how large the number pad appears when you tap QTY.
The pay button scale offers Normal, Large and Extra Large, with Large as the default. Larger keys help on wall-mounted screens and for staff wearing gloves, while smaller keys leave more room for products. Combine this with per-category column counts and double-height product buttons to fit the grid to your menu.
Other ways to set quantities
Quantity First is one of several ways to enter quantities, and you can mix them. Any product button can be set to Ask quantity from its Button Style, which opens the keypad every time that one item is tapped. This suits items such as bagels or wings that are nearly always bought in multiples, without changing the layout for the whole till.
Outside QSR Mode, staff change quantities in the cart with the minus and plus buttons or by editing the line. Products sold by weight take a decimal quantity from a scale or the keypad. Whichever method is used, the quantity prints on the receipt and kitchen ticket and counts correctly in the daily sales report.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn on Quantity First in SeroPOS?
Turn on QSR Mode in Settings, then tap the gear beside it to open QSR Settings. Under Quantity Entry, turn on Quantity First and save. The pay rows change to show a QTY key next to Cash, Debit and Credit, and Hold moves to the floating dial.
Can I use Quantity First on a phone?
No. Quantity First is part of QSR Mode, which needs a screen at least 650dp wide, such as a tablet, Windows PC or Mac. On phones, staff change quantities in the cart with the plus and minus buttons or by editing the line.
Where did the Hold button go?
In the Quantity First layout, Hold moves from the button rows to the floating action dial so the QTY key fits beside the pay buttons. Tap the dial and choose Hold to park the order and print the kitchen ticket as usual.
Can I make just one product ask for a quantity?
Yes. Long-press the product on the QSR grid to open Button Style and turn on Ask quantity. That product then opens the quantity keypad whenever it is tapped, while every other button adds one at a time. This works with or without Quantity First.
Can I make the quantity keypad bigger?
Yes. Open the quantity keypad and long-press its header bar, then pick Normal, Large or Extra Large in Quantity Keypad Size. Payment buttons have their own size (long-press Cash, Debit or Credit), and so does the bottom row. Each is remembered on that till.
