Steps
- Open Invite Accountant. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Invite Accountant. The page is called Your accountant and only admins can see it.
- Generate a code. Under Connect an accountant, click Generate a connection code.
- Read the code to your accountant. The code shows under Read this to your accountant. Give it to them by phone or in person. It works once, expires in 30 minutes and is only shown this one time.
- Your accountant enters it. Your accountant types the code into their copy of SeroBooks Accountant to connect to your books.
- Allow the connection if asked. Their practice appears under Accountants with access with its status. If it shows as pending, click Allow.
- Review who has opened your books. Expand Who has opened your books to see when, which practice, which person and which screen.
- Withdraw access when the job is done. Click Disconnect on the practice's row and confirm. They lose access from their next click.
What your accountant can and can't see
A connected accountant works inside your books on your subscription. They don't get a copy, and nothing is downloaded to their machine. They see your accounting, reports and payroll, the things an accountant is hired for. They aren't given your till, your staff roles or your payment terminals.
Only one code is live at a time. Generating a new code retires the old one, and Cancel outstanding code withdraws it before it is used.
Limits
If the page says Not available on this server yet, accountant access hasn't been switched on for your account. Nothing is wrong with your account; there is simply nothing to connect to yet. Contact support to ask about it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to give my accountant my password?
No. Generate a connection code under Settings › Invite Accountant and read it to them. They enter it in SeroBooks Accountant and work in your books under their own sign-in, so you never share your login and can remove them at any time.
What if the code expires before they use it?
Codes last 30 minutes and work once. If it expires or you lose it, click Generate a new code. The old code stops working the moment you do, so only the newest code can be used.
How do I remove my accountant's access?
Open Settings › Invite Accountant and click Disconnect on their practice's row, then confirm. Access ends from their very next click. The log under Who has opened your books stays, so you keep a record of their visits.
