Read the accounting dashboard in SeroPOS

Open Accounting from the back office sidebar to land on the accounting dashboard at /accounting/dashboard. It gives you a quick view of your chart of accounts, with the balance of each account type (assets, liabilities, equity, income and expenses) in one place. From the top bar of the module you can move straight to Chart of Accounts, Journal Entry, Transfer, Transactions, Budget, Reports and Settings.

Steps

  1. Open Accounting. In the back office sidebar, click Accounting. The module opens on the dashboard.
  2. Create your accounts if the page is empty. A new business has no accounts yet. Go to Chart of Accounts and click Create Default Accounts to load a standard set you can edit later.
  3. Read the balances by account type. Each account type shows the total of the accounts under it, so you can see at a glance what you own, what you owe and how income compares with expenses.
  4. Open an account's history. Go to Chart of Accounts and open an account's ledger to see every debit and credit behind its balance.
  5. Move to the task you need. Use the module's top bar: Journal Entry to post an adjustment, Transfer to move money between accounts, Reports for the trial balance and balance sheet.

Where the numbers come from

The balances come from the accounting ledger: journal entries and transfers you post, plus POS sales and supplier payments once they are mapped to accounts. If a balance looks too low, check Transactions to see whether recent payments are still waiting to be mapped.

Set default accounts for each payment method under Accounting › Settings › Map Transactions, so new sales and purchase payments post on their own.

Who can see it

Accounting is an add-on module. The Accounting item shows in the back office sidebar only when your subscription includes it and your role has the Accounting permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my accounting dashboard empty?

The dashboard only shows accounts that exist in your chart of accounts. On a new business, go to Accounting › Chart of Accounts and click Create Default Accounts. Then map your payment methods in Accounting › Settings so POS sales start posting to those accounts.

Does the dashboard update when I make a sale?

Yes, once that sale's payment is mapped to a payment account and a deposit-to account. With default mappings set in Accounting › Settings, new sales post automatically and the dashboard balances move with them.

I don't see Accounting in my sidebar. Why?

Accounting is an add-on module. It appears when your subscription includes it and your user role has the Accounting access permission. Ask the account owner to check both.
