Return an item in SeroPOS

To take an item back at the till, add it to the cart, tap the line to open Edit Item and turn on the Return toggle (Return Item on a phone, Is Return on a tablet). Save, and the line counts as a return, so it's refunded at payment instead of charged. To refund a whole earlier sale, use Recent Transaction instead.

Edit a cart line: return it, discount it or add instructions for the kitchen.

Steps

  1. Add the returned item. Start a sale and add the item being returned, by tapping it or scanning it.
  2. Open Edit Item. Tap the line in the cart.
  3. Turn on Return. Switch on Return. The phone shows This item will be marked as a return.
  4. Save. Tap Save Changes. The line now shows as a return.
  5. Add any exchange items. If the customer is swapping, add the new items. The total shows what's owed or due back.
  6. Finish at payment. Tap PAY and complete the sale. The refund is paid out in the method you choose.

Item return or full refund

The Return toggle is for a single item, or for an exchange where the customer buys something else at the same time. To refund or void a whole sale from earlier, open Drawer › Recent Transaction, find the sale and use Refund. Card refunds then run on the terminal.

Returns are counted in the Returns figure and the Category Return section of the Daily Sales Report.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the original receipt to return an item?

Not in SeroPOS: you can add any product and mark it as a return. Whether you need a receipt is your store's policy. For a full sale, finding the original in Recent Transaction and refunding it keeps the record linked to the sale.

Can staff do returns without a manager?

That depends on the role. Returns and refunds can be limited in each role's POS Access permissions, and a manager can approve a single return with their password when it's locked.
