Run and read the Daily Sales Report

The Daily Sales Report is the on-screen version of the end-of-day PDF. Go to Reports > Daily Sales Report (/reports/daily-sales-report), choose a Business Location and a Date Range, and click Show. The report lists net sales, GST, PST and the total including tax, then tips, payment methods, sales by category and discounts for the period. Download PDF saves a copy and Email Report sends the PDF to any addresses you type.

Steps

  1. Open the report. In the back-office sidebar, open Reports and click Daily Sales Report. You need permission to view purchase and sell reports.
  2. Pick the location. Choose the store in Business Location. Each location's sales, tax and payments are reported separately.
  3. Choose the dates. Click Date Range and pick Today, Yesterday or another preset, or set a Custom Range. The hint under the field shows the exact window the report covers.
  4. Click Show. Click Show to load the report body. It is built on the server from the same data as the PDF, so the screen and the PDF match.
  5. Read the Sales Breakdown. Each row shows Net Sales, GST, PST (when you charge it), Total (incl. tax) and % of Sales. The Subtotal row adds them up. Click any row to see the products behind it.
  6. Check charges, tax and payments. Read Additional Charges (delivery charges, tips, credit card surcharge), the Tax Summary (for remittance), Orders by Type and Payment Methods. Click a row to drill into it.
  7. Save or send it. Click Download PDF to save the report, or Email Report, type one or more addresses separated by commas in Send to, and click Send.

What each section shows

Sales Breakdown splits net sales by category, or by tax treatment when your menu isn't set up in categories, with GST, PST and the total including tax. Additional Charges lists delivery charges, tips and any credit card surcharge with their net, tax and total. Tax Summary (for remittance) adds up GST on sales, GST on delivery charges and PST into Total Tax Collected, which is the figure to check against your return.

Orders by Type shows each type of service (dine-in, takeaway, delivery and so on) with orders, sale, share of sales, tips and the amount collected. Sales by Category, Product Taxes, Payment Methods, Sales by Modifier, Discounts Applied and Boxes / Containers Count follow. Rows with a magnifier icon open a drill-down window listing the sales behind the figure.

Emailing the report

Email Report attaches the PDF for the selected date range and sends it only to the addresses you type. The store's own scheduled recipients for the nightly report are not added, so type them in if they should get this copy too.

Column headings follow the Canadian style (GST and PST). The PST column appears only when PST was charged in the period.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the Daily Sales Report match the Profit / Loss Report?

They answer different questions. The Daily Sales Report counts sales, tax, tips and payments for a location and period. Profit / Loss also takes in stock values, purchases, expenses and adjustments to work out gross and net profit, so its sales figure sits inside a wider calculation. Check that both use the same location and dates before comparing.

Can I see which sales make up a figure?

Yes. Most rows on the report, including the Sales Breakdown, Additional Charges and Tax Summary rows, open a drill-down window when you click them. It lists the products or sales behind that figure for the same location and date range. If a row has nothing behind it, the window says there is nothing to show for the period.

Is this the same report as the one in the SeroPOS app?

The app has its own Daily Sales Report for the till. The back-office version covers any date range you choose, drills down into rows, and can be downloaded as a PDF or emailed to anyone from the back office.
