Pay with cash and card together

When a customer wants to pay part in cash and part on card, use Split with the Custom split type. Make two splits, type the cash amount on the first, and the rest goes on the second. Pay the first with Cash and the second with Card. Any custom method you've set up, such as E-Transfer, can be one of the parts.

Split a bill evenly, by percent, by item or by custom amounts, and pay each share its own way.

Steps

  1. Open Split. Tap PAY, then the Split chip.
  2. Choose Custom. Under CREATE SPLIT, set Split Type to Custom and Split Numbers to 2 (or more for three tenders).
  3. Enter the amounts. Under SPLIT ROWS, type the cash amount on the first row. Adjust the second so the two add up to the total.
  4. Pay the cash part. On the first split, choose Cash and tap Pay. Change Return shows if they handed over more.
  5. Pay the card part. On the second split, choose Card, pick Debit or Credit under CARD TYPE and tap Pay. The terminal takes the card.
  6. Finish. Tap Continue once both parts show Paid.

How it shows afterwards

The receipt and Recent Transaction show each method used, with one payment-mode chip per method. The Daily Sales Report counts each part under its own method, so cash and card totals still reconcile.

In QSR Mode, tap Split, type the first amount and tap Cash, then tap Credit or Debit for the Remaining balance.

When a card is only partly approved

Some terminals can approve only part of the amount, for example on a prepaid card. SeroPOS shows the balance due and lets you charge the rest on another card or take cash.

Frequently asked questions

Does a card surcharge apply to a mixed payment?

A card surcharge, if you've turned one on, applies to the credit-card part only. The cash or debit part isn't surcharged. The surcharge shows on the receipt and in the Card Surcharge figure of the Daily Sales Report.

Can I use three tenders on one bill?

Yes. Set Split Numbers to 3 with the Custom split type and type an amount on each row, for example cash, debit and E-Transfer. Pay each split with its own method. The order closes when the last split is paid and you tap Continue.
