Steps
- Find the sale. Open the drawer and tap Recent Transaction. Search by invoice number or customer, or filter by date.
- Choose Refund Sale. Open the sale's actions and tap Refund Sale (Void Sale is shown instead when the payment can still be voided).
- Pick the payment. In Refund which payment?, choose the Moneris card payment.
- Let the linked refund run. SeroPOS sends a refund linked to the original payment. If the terminal asks for a card, the customer presents the same card.
- If it fails, use Independent Refund. If the linked refund is refused, tap Independent Refund — Customer Presents Card. The customer taps or inserts the card that paid, and the refund goes to that card.
- Check the result. When the refund is approved, the sale shows as Refunded in Recent Transaction.
Refunds go direct to the card
Some banks refuse voids and linked refunds on a Moneris account. When that happens, Moneris Pay Settings shows a Refunds go direct to the card banner and SeroPOS goes straight to the independent refund, where the money follows whichever card is tapped. Make sure the customer presents the card they paid with.
Money can only go back to a card through the terminal. If the card is not available, give the money back another way and contact Moneris. Try linked refunds again in Moneris Pay Settings clears the banner after Moneris changes your account.

What is an independent refund?
It is a refund that is not tied to the original payment. The customer presents a card on the terminal and the money goes to that card. SeroPOS offers it when the bank refuses a linked refund, so ask the customer for the same card they paid with.
Can I refund part of a Moneris sale?
To return a single item, use the Return toggle on the cart line when you edit the sale, so the refund matches the item. For a whole sale, use Refund Sale in Recent Transaction. Recent Transaction needs an internet connection.
