Steps
- Find the original sale. In the sidebar, open Sell > All Sales, find the invoice and click View.
- Start the return. Click Sell Return at the top of the invoice page. You need sell return access.
- Check the parent sale. The Parent Sale box shows the Invoice No., Date, Customer and Business Location. Set the return Date and, if you want, an Invoice No. for the credit note.
- Enter the quantities. For each line, type the Return Quantity. The table shows Product Name, Unit Price, Sell Quantity and the Return Subtotal.
- Add a return discount. Set Discount Type to Fixed or Percentage and the Discount Amount if you are holding back part of the refund. Total Return Discount, Total Return Tax and Return Total update.
- Discard damaged items. Tick the discard option if the items can't be resold, for example damaged or expired. A stock adjustment is written so they don't rejoin sellable stock.
- Save and print. Click Save, then print the credit note from the return's Print action in List Sell Return.
After the return
The amount appears as Sell Return Due on the original sale in All Sales until you pay the customer back. Record the refund as a payment on the return. List Sell Return filters by Business Location, Customer, Date Range and User and shows Date, Invoice No., Parent Sale, Customer name, Location, Payment Status, Total amount and Payment due, with View, Edit, Delete and Print actions.
Returns are subtracted as Total Sell Return in the Profit / Loss Report and shown on the Purchase & Sale and Supplier & Customer reports.
Frequently asked questions
Can I return an item without the original invoice?
In the back office a return is recorded against the parent invoice, so find the sale first in All Sales using the customer or date filters. For a quick counter refund, the SeroPOS app has its own return flow.
Does a return put the item back in stock?
Yes, stock is restored when the return is recorded. If the item is damaged or expired, tick the discard option and SeroPOS writes a stock adjustment instead, so the item doesn't become sellable again.
