Steps
- Open the report. In the sidebar, open Reports and click Purchase & Sale. It shows when Purchases, Add Sale or POS Sale is turned on in Modules.
- Pick the location and dates. Choose a business location at the top, then click Filter by date and choose a preset or custom range.
- Read the Purchases box. Total Purchase, Purchase Including tax, Total Purchase Return Including Tax and Purchase Due, which is the unpaid amount on purchases.
- Read the Sales box. Total Sale, Sale Including tax, Total Sell Return Including Tax and Sale Due, the amount still to be received from sales.
- Read the Overall figures. Overall (Sale - Sale Return - Purchase - Purchase Return) gives the net difference. Due amount compares sale due with purchase due. A negative value is an amount to pay; a positive value is an amount to receive.
- Print it. Click Print to print both boxes and the overall lines with your business name.
What the report is good for
This is a quick cash-position check rather than a profit report. It tells you whether sales for the period covered what you bought, and how much is outstanding with customers and suppliers. It does not use stock values or expenses, so it will differ from Profit / Loss.
Returns are shown including tax, and the due figures cover unpaid and partly paid invoices and purchases dated in the period.
Frequently asked questions
What does a negative Overall figure mean?
It means you bought more than you sold in the period after returns. That is normal in a month when you stock up. The report notes that a negative value is an amount to pay and a positive value is an amount to receive.
Does this report include expenses?
No. It only compares purchases and sales with their returns and dues. Use the Expense Report for spending by category, and the Profit / Loss Report for profit after expenses.
