Build a recipe in SeroPOS

Build a recipe, or bill of materials, at Manufacturing › Recipe (/manufacturing/recipe). Choose the product the recipe makes, add its ingredients with quantities and units, and set the wastage percent, any extra production cost and the total output quantity. SeroPOS works out the ingredient cost and the cost per unit from your ingredients' purchase prices. To save time, start from Copy from recipe and change only what differs.

Steps

  1. Open Recipe. In the back office sidebar, click Manufacturing. The Recipe list opens first.
  2. Add a recipe. Click Add Recipe and use Choose Product to pick the product or variation this recipe makes. To start from an existing recipe, use Copy from recipe instead.
  3. Add ingredients. Under Ingredients, use Select Ingredient to add each item, then enter its quantity and unit. Sub-units such as grams of a product stocked in kilograms work too.
  4. Split it into steps if needed. Click Add production step to group ingredients under a Step name with its own description, for example Dough and Topping.
  5. Set wastage. Enter the Wastage Percent: the share of the total output usually lost in production, such as trimmings or a burnt batch.
  6. Add extra cost. Enter any Production Cost on top of the ingredients, such as labour or energy, as a fixed amount, a percentage of ingredient cost, or per unit.
  7. Set output and instructions. Enter the Total Output Quantity the recipe makes and write the Recipe Instructions for your team. Save.
  8. View the recipe. Open the recipe from the list to see ingredients, Ingredients Cost, Total Cost and the cost per unit.

How the cost is worked out

Each ingredient line is its quantity times its unit purchase price. The recipe adds those up, adds the extra production cost, and divides by the output after wastage. Because the price is updated from the ingredients' purchase cost, a supplier price change shows in the recipe cost the next time you open it.

Products used as ingredients are marked as added to a recipe, so you can see what depends on them.

Good to know

Recipes and production are part of the Pro plan. The Manufacturing item shows in the back office sidebar when your subscription includes it and your role has the recipe or production permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use one product as an ingredient in several recipes?

Yes. A flour or sauce product can appear in as many recipes as you like. Production takes the right quantity out of stock for whichever recipe you produce.

What is wastage percent?

It's the percentage of the total output you expect to lose in production. The final quantity is the input quantity less the wastage percent, so the cost per unit allows for the loss.

How do I make a similar recipe quickly?

Use Copy from recipe when adding a recipe. It fills in the ingredients and settings from the recipe you pick, and you change only what's different.
