Sales commission agents in SeroPOS

Agents with a rate

Add a commission agent with name, email, contact number, address and their commission percentage.

Staff can earn too

Give any user a sales commission percentage on their user record and pick them as the agent on a sale.

Four agent modes

Choose whether commission is off, goes to the logged-in user, or is chosen from users or from commission agents.

Agent on the invoice

Pick the commission agent on Create Invoice so the sale is credited to the right person.

Sales representative report

Per person: total sales, sales returns, commission and expenses, with tabs for each list.

Own sales only

Let an agent see only the sales where they are the commission agent, and nothing else.

Choosing how commission works

In the back office, open Business Settings and go to the Sale tab. The sales commission agent setting has four choices. Disable turns commission off. Logged-in user credits every sale to whoever made it. Select from users lets you pick any staff member on the sale. Select from commission agents lets you pick from a separate list of agents who may not use the till at all.

Pick the one that matches how you pay. A furniture store paying floor staff on their own sales would use logged-in user. A wholesaler with outside reps who never touch the system would use commission agents. You can change the mode later if the way you pay commission changes. Most shops pick one mode and keep it.

Adding agents and rates

Commission agents are added under User Management, then Sales Commission Agents. Enter their name, email, contact number, address and commission percentage. They are not given a login; they are simply people you can credit with a sale. They appear in the agent list on sales as soon as they are saved.

For staff who do log in, the commission percentage is on their user record, next to their role, location access and maximum discount. Keep rates up to date when agreements change, and check the sales representative report for the period before you pay, so the figures match what you agreed with each person.

Crediting a sale

On Create Invoice, a commission agent field appears when the mode calls for it. Pick the person who made the sale, and the sale counts toward their commission at their rate. In logged-in user mode there is nothing to pick; the person signed in gets the credit. The agent's name stays on the sale for later reference.

Returns are taken into account. If a customer brings goods back, the sell return reduces that agent's sales in the report, so you do not pay commission on sales that did not stick. That is fairer to the business and easier to explain to the agent. It keeps commission tied to sales that stuck.

Reporting and paying commission

The sales representative report under Reports shows, for each user or agent, total sales, sales returns, commission and expenses for the date range and location you choose. Tabs list the sales they added, the sales with commission and the expenses recorded against them, so you can check the detail before paying.

Roles can let an agent see only the sales where they are the commission agent. That way a rep can check their own figures without seeing the rest of the business, and payday arguments get shorter. It also lets reps chase their own unpaid invoices, since they can see which of their sales are still due.

Frequently asked questions

Do commission agents need a login?

No. Commission agents added under Sales Commission Agents have a name, contact details and a rate, but no login. They are selected on the sale by whoever creates the invoice. Staff who log in can earn commission through the rate on their user record.

How is commission calculated?

Commission is the agent's percentage applied to their sales for the period. The sales representative report shows total sales, sales returns and the commission figure for each person, for any date range and location. Check the report before each pay run.

Are returns taken off commission?

Yes. Sell returns are shown against the agent in the sales representative report, so the sales figure the commission is based on reflects goods that were kept, not goods that came back. Agents are paid on what customers actually kept.

Can a rep see their own sales?

Roles include a commission-agent permission that lets a person see only the sales where they are the agent. Combine it with a role that has no other sales access for reps who should see only their own figures. Managers keep their wider access.

Can I pay staff commission on till sales?

Set the commission mode to logged-in user and give each staff member a commission percentage on their user record. Sales are credited to the person signed in, and the sales representative report totals them. It suits stores that pay floor staff on their own sales.
