What the report shows

Open Reports, then Trending Products. The report charts your top products by quantity sold, highest first. Set the filters and the number of products to show, and the chart redraws for that slice of your sales. Leave the filters empty to rank products across the whole business, or set a date range to look at one week, one month or a season.

Ranking by quantity answers the question most owners actually mean by best seller: what moves. It's the list to check before ordering, before changing the menu board and before deciding which items deserve the featured spots on the till. It also helps when training new staff, who learn the popular items first.

Best sellers by category

A whole-business top 10 is often dominated by one cheap, frequent item, such as drip coffee or a bottle of water. Filter by category and the picture changes. A café can see its best-selling pastry, its best-selling cold drink and its best-selling sandwich, each in its own chart. Sub-categories narrow it further.

Retailers can do the same by brand, which helps when a supplier rep asks how their range is doing, or by sub-category to see which sizes or styles lead. The location filter shows whether a product that tops the list in one store is just as popular in another. Product type separates combos from single items.

Putting the list to use

Once you know your top items, make them easy to sell. On the till, featured products for each location are set under Business Locations, and button layouts in the app can put popular items on the first screen. On the shelf, it may mean more facings or a better spot.

Trending products shows quantity, not profit. Before promoting an item, check it on the profit and loss report's Profit by products tab. A best seller with a thin margin may be better used to bring people in, while a slightly slower item with a strong margin might deserve the push.

Comparing periods

Run the report for this month and last month, or this summer against last winter, and compare the charts. Products that climb are worth stocking deeper. Products that fall off the list may be seasonal, or may need a price check. Keep the other filters the same so the comparison is fair.

For the exact numbers behind the chart, including which customers bought an item and at what time of day, use the product sales report. Its Grouped view shows units sold beside current stock, which pairs well with the trending chart when you're writing a purchase order. Its product, category and location filters work the same way.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see my best-selling products?

Open Reports, then Trending Products in the back office. Set the date range, the location and how many products to show, and the chart ranks your products by quantity sold. Add a category or brand filter to see the best sellers within that group.

Can I see a top 10 products report?

Yes. Set the number of products to 10 and the chart shows your top 10 by quantity for the dates and filters you chose. You can print it from the report screen to share with staff. Any other number works the same way.

Does trending products rank by revenue or quantity?

By quantity sold. For revenue and profit per product, use the profit and loss report's Profit by products tab or the product sales report, which lists sales values. Comparing the two shows whether your busiest items are also your most profitable.

Can I see best sellers for one location?

Yes. Choose the location in the filter and the chart covers only that store's sales. Run it again with another location to compare which items lead in each. The other filters still apply, so you can look at one category within one store, or one brand across a single month, without changing anything else on the screen.

Can I see the top-selling menu items in one category?

Yes. Filter by category, or by sub-category, and the chart ranks only the products in it. This is useful for a restaurant that wants its top dishes, drinks and desserts as separate lists rather than one combined chart. Print each chart for the team.
