POS for pet stores

Pet owners buy the same food every few weeks, in the same bag size, for years. SeroPOS rewards that loyalty with points, prices every bag size as its own variation and keeps an eye on the best-before dates on food and treats.

What you get

Pet stores in SeroPOS

Reward points

Customers earn points on each purchase and redeem them at payment, with rules and an expiry period you set.

Every bag size priced

Sell 2 kg, 6 kg and 12 kg bags as variations of one food, each with its own SKU, price and stock.

Expiry on food and treats

Record best-before dates when stock arrives and choose whether to stop selling it before the date.

Customer history

Look up a regular by name or phone and see what they bought last time.

Low-stock alerts

The dashboard lists foods at or below their alert quantity, so the regular's brand is on the shelf.

Grooming and services

Sell a grooming appointment or nail trim as a service item on the same receipt as the shampoo.

Reward the customers who come back

In Reward Point Settings, turn points on and give them a name your customers will recognise. Set how much a customer must spend to earn one point, the minimum order to earn, the most points per order, what each point is worth when redeemed, the minimum and maximum points per redemption, and an expiry period in months or years. Points are earned automatically on sales to a named customer.

At payment, the cashier taps Points, sees the balance and redeems what the customer wants to use. Each customer's profile shows the points earned and redeemed. Customer groups can add a standing discount for breeders, rescues or vet clinics, and the Customer Groups report shows sales by group. A regular can be found by name or phone from the customer search before the order starts.

One food, every bag size

Create a Size variation template with your bag sizes and build each food as a variable product. Every size gets its own SKU, barcode, cost, price and stock under one product name, and the till asks which size when you tap the food or adds the exact one when you scan the bag. Reports roll up by brand and category and also show units by size.

Units and sub-units work for cans sold singly and by the case: set Can as the base unit and Case of 24 as a sub-unit, and receive by the case while selling either. Discount rules can put a brand on promotion between two dates, and a case price can come from its own price group if you sell to rescues.

  • Group pricing for rescues and breeders

Best-before dates on food and treats

Turn on product expiry, and purchases ask for a lot number and an expiry date on each line. Set On product expiry to keep selling, or to stop selling a set number of days before the date, which keeps a stale bag of treats from going home with a customer. The dashboard's Stock Expiry Alert shows what is due within the window you choose.

The Stock Expiry Report lists stock in each lot with its dates so you can write off expired items with a stock adjustment, recording the loss with a reason. If a supplier takes back short-dated stock, a purchase return against the original purchase records the credit. The Lot Report shows how much of each batch sold before its date.

Grooming, services and the counter

Services like grooming, nail trims or a self-wash station are products with stock turned off, so they ring up on the same receipt as the shampoo and the treats. If you take appointments, the back office Bookings screen records the customer, the staff member, the start and end time and a note, and can send the customer an email or SMS confirmation.

Cards go to integrated terminals from Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments. Live animals or one-off items can be rung up at a typed price, and a pet's name or breed can go in a customer custom field so staff greet the dog by name. Customer custom fields have your own labels, set once in Custom Labels.

Frequently asked questions

Does SeroPOS have a pet store loyalty program?

Yes, through reward points. You set how much a customer spends per point, minimum orders to earn and redeem, the most points per order, what a point is worth and when points expire. Points are redeemed at payment and each customer's balance shows on their profile.

Can I sell several bag sizes of the same food?

Yes. Create a size variation template and build the food as a variable product. Each bag size has its own SKU, barcode, price and stock, and the till asks which size when you tap it or adds the right one when you scan the bag.

Can I track expiry dates on pet food?

Yes. Turn on product expiry and record the expiry date on each purchase line. Choose whether to keep selling or stop selling a number of days before the date. The dashboard alert and the Stock Expiry Report show what is about to expire.

Can I book grooming appointments?

The back office Bookings screen records a customer, staff member, start and end time and a note, and can send an email or SMS notification. Grooming itself rings up at the till as a service item. It is a simple booking list, not an online booking page.

How much does a pet store POS cost?

SeroPOS Standard is $30 a month for one location and three users, with unlimited products. Pro is $50 a month and adds CRM, advanced back-office reports and QuickBooks. Both include a 14-day free trial and need no card to start.
