POS for mall kiosks and small counters

A mall cart or a small counter has room for one device and one person, so that device has to scan, sell and take the card. SeroPOS runs on a handheld card terminal or a phone and does all three without a desktop setup.

Kiosks in SeroPOS

One handheld does it all

SeroPOS runs on the Global Payments T650P with Terminal Plus, so the till and card reader are one device.

Camera barcode scanning

Scan a product's barcode with the phone or terminal camera to add it to the sale.

Small-screen layout

A compact layout with a short toolbar and bottom tabs is built for 360-wide screens.

Staff permissions

Roles lock refunds, discounts and price changes, with a manager's password to approve.

Several carts, one back office

Each cart can be its own location, with sales and stock compared in the back office.

Cash and shift counts

Open the register with a float and close it with the counted cash at the end of a shift.

Built for a counter measured in inches

On phones and handhelds under 600 dp wide, SeroPOS switches to a compact layout: a 44 dp toolbar, a 46 dp bottom navigation bar and a compact cart, payment and modifier sheet. It was built for the Global Payments T650P, which is 360 by 640, and works the same on Android phones and iPhones.

The Home screen starts a sale with one New Sale button in Retail Mode. Categories and search find products, and a draggable speed dial holds the drawer, cash pay-out, held sales and clear. A mall kiosk doesn't need much else, and the screen doesn't waste space on restaurant features it will never use.

Scan, sell and take the card on one device

With Terminal Plus, SeroPOS runs on the T650P itself and passes the amount to the payment app on the same terminal. The customer taps or inserts their card on the device the cashier is holding. If the card is declined, a red screen, an alarm and a printed decline slip make it clear; if a tap stalls, Check on Terminal confirms whether it went through.

Barcodes can be scanned with the camera, which looks up the SKU through the server on phones, so it needs a connection. Items without barcodes are found by name in search or rung up as open-price items. Receipts can print on a paired Bluetooth receipt printer, or be skipped when the customer doesn't want one.

Kiosk POS is not kiosk mode

A quick note on wording. SeroPOS also has a Kiosk Mode, which turns a tablet into a self-order screen for customers to order and pay themselves. That is for restaurants and needs a tablet or larger screen. This page is about a staffed retail kiosk, such as a mall cart or a small counter, where one person sells from a handheld or phone.

If you sell cases, chargers, jewellery or cosmetics from a cart, the retail features carry over: variations for sizes and colours, serial numbers on higher-value items, low-stock alerts in the back office, and reward points for repeat customers. Products, prices and customers come from the same back office as any other SeroPOS store, so a cart can be added to an existing business.

Several carts, one set of numbers

Many cart operators run more than one site. Give each cart its own location and its stock, sales and register sessions stay separate, while the back office shows them side by side. Stock transfers restock a cart from your storage unit, and users can be limited to the location they work at.

Roles decide what each person can do: refunds, discounts, price changes, voids. A locked action can be approved once with a manager's password. Each shift opens and closes a register with the counted cash, and the Register Report keeps every session by user and location, with cash, card slips and the closing note.

Frequently asked questions

What POS works best for a mall kiosk?

A small-footprint setup: one handheld or phone that scans, sells and takes cards. SeroPOS runs on the Global Payments T650P with Terminal Plus, or on a phone with a Moneris Go or Global Pay Cloud terminal. Standard is $30 a month for one location.

Is SeroPOS Kiosk Mode for mall kiosks?

No. Kiosk Mode is a self-order screen where customers order and pay themselves, mainly for restaurants, and it needs a tablet or larger. A staffed mall kiosk or cart uses the normal till on a phone or handheld, with Retail Mode turned on.

Can I scan barcodes on a handheld?

Yes. The scan button uses the device camera to read a barcode and add the product. On phones and handhelds the SKU is looked up through the server, so scanning needs a connection. Search by name works as a backup.

Can I run several mall carts?

Yes. Each cart can be a location with its own stock, sales and register sessions, and extra locations are billed at the plan price. The back office compares locations in its reports, and stock transfers restock each cart from your storage unit or main store.

Can I stop cart staff from giving discounts?

Yes. Roles control discounts, refunds, price changes and voids at the till. When a staff member tries a locked action, the app asks for a manager's password to approve it once. Each user can also have a maximum discount percentage.
