POS for hardware stores
A hardware store sells screws by the each and by the box, lumber by the length and a big share of its volume to contractors who pay at the end of the month. SeroPOS handles all three without a separate system for the trade counter.
Hardware stores in SeroPOS
Each, box or case
Units and sub-units let you sell a single bolt or a box of 100 from the same stock.
Contractor charge accounts
Put a sale on account with the Credit tender, checked against the customer's credit limit.
Pay terms
Give trade customers terms in days or months and see invoices falling due on the dashboard.
Large catalogue import
Import thousands of SKUs from a spreadsheet with categories, brands, units and prices.
Trade pricing
Selling price groups and customer groups give contractors their own prices automatically.
Aisle and bin locations
Record a rack, row and position for each product per store so staff can find it.
Eaches, boxes and cut lengths
Units and sub-units handle the way hardware is bought and sold. Make Each the base unit and add Box of 100 or Case of 12 as sub-units, then receive by the box and sell either way. Units can allow decimals, so rope, chain or wire sold by the metre or foot rings up as 3.5 units at the price per unit.
Products can carry a rack, row and position for each location, which helps a new hire find the right drawer of fasteners. Barcodes can be scanned with a USB scanner or a phone camera, and items without a barcode can be found by name or SKU in the search field or added as an open-price item for a one-off.
The contractor counter
Contractors expect to sign for materials and pay monthly. Each customer record has a credit limit and a pay term in days or months. At the till, the Credit payment mode puts the sale on the customer's account and checks the credit limit first, showing Not Enough Credit Available if they are over. Partial payments are allowed when they pay part now.
In the back office, the dashboard lists sales payments due in the next seven days. Receive Payment searches by invoice number, customer, company or phone and records full or partial payments against open invoices. The customer ledger shows every sale and payment and can be emailed as a statement, and the Supplier & Customer report gives the amount due for every account.
- Credit limit and pay term per customer
- On-account sales at the till
- Receive Payment against open invoices
- Ledger statements by email
Trade pricing without manual overrides
Selling price groups hold a second price list, such as Contractor or Builder, set per product. Export a group's prices to a spreadsheet, update them and import them back when your supplier's price list changes. Customer groups can then use a price group, or a percentage off the selling price, so a contractor's account gets trade pricing the moment they are added to the sale.
For bigger jobs, create a quotation with a PDF and a link the customer can accept, then convert it into an invoice when the order is confirmed. Invoices can carry shipping details and a delivery status if you deliver to site, and the packing list PDF goes with the driver.
A catalogue measured in thousands
Hardware catalogues are big. Import products from a spreadsheet with SKUs, barcodes, categories, sub-categories, brands, units and prices, then import opening stock by location. Bulk Edit changes prices or categories for many items at once, and alert quantities feed the Product Stock Alert list on the dashboard so popular fasteners don't run out.
Purchases record supplier deliveries with cost, can update selling prices from the purchase screen and raise stock where it was received. The Stock Report shows stock value at cost and selling price by category, and Profit / Loss breaks results down by category, brand and customer, which shows whether the trade counter is earning its discounts.
Frequently asked questions
Can a hardware store POS handle contractor accounts?
Yes. Give the customer a credit limit and pay term, then use the Credit payment mode at the till to put the sale on their account. SeroPOS checks the credit limit first. Payments are recorded later with Receive Payment, and the customer ledger can be emailed as a statement.
Can I sell by the each and by the box?
Yes. Create Each as the base unit and add Box or Case as a sub-unit with its multiple. You can buy and sell in any of them, and stock is kept in the base unit. Units can also allow decimals for items sold by length.
Can contractors get their own prices?
Yes. Create a selling price group such as Contractor with its own price per product, then link it to a customer group. When a contractor in that group is added to a sale, their prices apply automatically. Prices can be updated in bulk through a spreadsheet export and import.
How many products can SeroPOS hold?
Both plans include unlimited products. Large catalogues are loaded from a spreadsheet, opening stock is imported by location, and Bulk Edit changes prices and categories across many items at once. Products can be filtered by category, brand, unit and location in the back office.
Do I get a statement for each trade account?
Yes. Each customer's ledger lists sales, payments and the balance for a date range, and can be sent by email from the customer's page. The Supplier & Customer report shows totals and amounts due for every account, filterable by customer group.
