What you get

Staff clock in in SeroPOS

On the till

Clock In/Clock Out sits in the app's drawer, with a clock icon in the app bar too.

User ID and password

Each person clocks in with their own credentials, so nobody can clock in for a friend.

Checked against shifts

Clock-ins are checked against the person's assigned shift and the grace times you allow.

Fixed or flexible shifts

Set up fixed or flexible shifts with weekly days off, and assign users to them.

Attendance records

Clock-in and clock-out times are kept as attendance you can filter, add to and edit.

Phone or tablet

A dialog on tablets and desktops, and a bottom sheet on phones.

Clocking in at the till

When a shift starts, the staff member opens the drawer in the SeroPOS app and taps Clock In/Clock Out, or taps the clock icon in the app bar. They enter their user ID and password and confirm. At the end of the shift they do the same to clock out. On a tablet or computer it opens as a dialog; on a phone it slides up as a bottom sheet.

Because people use their own credentials, the record is theirs. A till shared by the whole team can still keep accurate attendance for each person. There is no separate time clock to buy, and staff use the same screen they already know from selling. It suits small teams on a shared device.

Setting up shifts

Clock-in works with shifts. In the app, open Admin, then Tools, and use the staff screen, which has tabs for departments, designations, employees, shifts, attendance and settings, plus a setup guide. Create shifts as fixed, with set start and end times, or flexible. Add weekly days off, then use Assign Users to put people on each shift.

Staff need to be assigned to a shift before they can clock in. If someone cannot clock in, check that they have a shift and that clock-in is allowed in the settings. The setup guide on the staff screen walks through the steps in order, so nothing is missed. Start with one shift.

  • Create fixed or flexible shifts
  • Set weekly days off
  • Assign users to each shift
  • Allow self-attendance in settings

Grace times and location

Attendance settings decide how strict clock-in is. Allow users to clock in themselves, require a location on clock-in if you want to be sure they are on site, and set grace times before and after the start and end of a shift. A five-minute grace time lets someone clock in a little early or late without being flagged.

Clock-ins are validated against the shift and grace times, so attendance reflects the hours people were scheduled for, not a clock-in an hour early on a quiet morning. Choose grace times that are fair to staff and practical for the business, and tell the team what they are. Write them down for staff.

Reviewing attendance

The attendance tab lists clock-in and clock-out times by person and date, with filters. Managers can add a missed clock-in or correct a time when someone forgot. Use the records to check hours before you run payroll in your payroll system. Check the records weekly. Weekly checks catch missed clock-ins while everyone still remembers the shift and can confirm the right times.

Clock-in and the attendance screens need an internet connection, because the times are checked and stored on the server. Selling, kitchen tickets and the rest of the till keep working offline as usual. Plan for a short outage by noting times on paper and adding them later. It is a rare case.

Frequently asked questions

How do staff clock in on SeroPOS?

Open the drawer in the SeroPOS app and tap Clock In/Clock Out, or tap the clock icon in the app bar. Enter the user ID and password and confirm. Do the same at the end of the shift to clock out.

Why can a staff member not clock in?

Check that they are assigned to a shift and that self-attendance is turned on in the attendance settings. Clock-ins are also checked against the shift's grace times, and the app needs an internet connection to record them. Most problems come from a missing shift assignment.

Can I stop people clocking in too early?

Yes. Set grace times before and after the start and end of each shift in the attendance settings. Clock-ins are validated against the shift and those grace times. Agree the grace times with your team. Fair, clear rules avoid disputes about hours and make it easy to explain a flagged clock-in to the person involved.

Can a manager fix a missed clock-out?

Yes. The attendance tab lets managers add or edit attendance records, so a forgotten clock-out can be corrected with the right time. The corrected record then shows the real hours worked, which keeps attendance fair for everyone on the team.

Does clock-in work offline?

No. Clock-in needs an internet connection because times are checked against shifts and stored on the server. The rest of the till, including sales and kitchen tickets, keeps working offline. Note the times on paper during an outage and add them later from the attendance tab.
