Practise on demo data before going live

Before you load your own menu, fill SeroPOS with a sample one and try everything. Ring up sales, hold orders, print tickets and train staff on demo data, then remove it in one step when you are ready to go live with your own products.

What you get

Demo data in SeroPOS

One tap to load

Add Demo Data in the app's Admin tools builds a sample menu on the server and syncs it to the till.

A menu to practise on

Categories, products and prices to ring up, so every screen has something on it.

Train without risk

New staff learn the till on sample products, not on your live catalogue and reports.

Also in the back office

Business Settings has a Demo Data tab with Add demo data and Remove demo data buttons.

Remove and log out

Remove Demo Data clears the sample data and logs out, ready for a clean start.

Part of the setup guide

The Getting Started guide points to demo data alongside staff and bulk import.

Why start with demo data

A new POS with an empty catalogue is hard to judge. You cannot see how the sale screen feels, how modifiers pop up or what a kitchen ticket looks like until there are products to sell. Demo data gives you a working menu in about the time it takes to make a coffee.

It is also the easiest way to train. Staff can try split bills, refunds, holds and the cash drawer on sample products, before your own catalogue is loaded, so mistakes made while learning never touch the products and prices you will actually sell. That makes it a far better test than reading about features on a website.

Adding demo data in the app

Open the drawer, tap Admin, then go to Tools and choose Add Demo Data. The server builds a sample menu for your business, then the till runs a full sync to download it. This can take up to three minutes, so leave the app open until it finishes. Keep the till connected to the internet while it runs.

When it is done, the home screen and product grid show the sample categories and products. Start an order, add items, try modifiers and variations, hold an order, resume it and take a payment. Connect a printer and print receipts and kitchen tickets to check your hardware. Try everything you expect to do on a normal day.

  • Drawer, then Admin
  • Tools, then Add Demo Data
  • Wait for the full sync to finish
  • Try orders, holds, payments and printing

From the back office

The same option is in the web back office. Open Business Settings and go to the Demo Data tab, where there are Add demo data and Remove demo data buttons. Use it if you are setting up from a computer before the tills arrive. Both routes do the same job.

With demo data in place, explore the back office too: open a product to see its settings, run the daily sales report on your test sales, and look at how stock changes after a sale. It is a quick way to learn the back office before your own data is in.

Going live

When you are ready to load your own products, go back to Admin, then Tools, and choose Remove Demo Data. Confirm Remove and log out. The sample data is cleared and the app logs out, so the next sign-in starts with a clean catalogue. Your account and settings stay in place.

Then add your own categories, taxes and products, by hand or with the product import, and follow the rest of the Getting Started guide. Do a last test sale with your real products before you open the doors. That final check catches pricing and tax mistakes before customers do. Then you are ready.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add demo data to SeroPOS?

In the app, open the drawer, tap Admin, go to Tools and choose Add Demo Data. The server builds a sample menu and the till syncs it, which can take up to three minutes. In the back office, use the Demo Data tab in Business Settings.

Should I make practice sales on demo data?

Yes, that is what it is for. Practice sales are recorded like any other sale, so do your practising before you go live, then remove the demo data, load your own products and check your reports start where you expect on opening day.

How do I remove the demo data?

In the app, go to Admin, then Tools, and choose Remove Demo Data, then confirm Remove and log out. In the back office, use Remove demo data on the Demo Data tab of Business Settings. Then sign back in and start loading your own products.

Can I use demo data to train new staff later?

Demo data is best used before you load your own products. Once you are live, train new staff during quiet times and use manager approval for actions like refunds while they learn. Roles and manager approval keep mistakes small while they learn.

Can I try demo data during the free trial?

Yes. The 14-day free trial includes everything, with no card needed. Demo data is a good way to try the till, printers and reports before you decide on Standard or Pro. It is the quickest way to see whether SeroPOS fits your business.
