SeroPOS and Clover at a glance

As of 2026, Clover is a POS platform owned by Fiserv. It runs on Clover's own devices, such as its station, mini and handheld, and card processing generally goes through Fiserv or a partner bank or reseller. An app market adds extra features. It is sold in the US, Canada and several other countries.

SeroPOS is a POS app sold on monthly plans for restaurants and shops. It runs on Windows, Mac, iPad, Android and phones, and connects to card terminals from Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments. The till and the merchant account are separate choices, so changing one doesn't force a change of the other.

Devices and hardware

Clover's hardware is a polished, all-in-one setup, which many owners like. Because the software runs on Clover devices, changing processors later can mean changing hardware too, depending on how the devices were supplied. Check your agreement before you decide. If you lease or rent Clover devices, ask what happens to them if you change software or processor.

SeroPOS doesn't need special devices. A Windows PC with a touchscreen, an iPad, or an Android tablet works as a till, and the Global Payments T650P handheld can run SeroPOS directly through Terminal Plus. Printers connect over the network, USB or Bluetooth, and a second monitor can show the customer their order.

Card payments and processing

With Clover, processing is generally arranged through the bank or partner that supplied the devices, as of 2026. With SeroPOS, you connect a Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments terminal and the amount goes from the till to the terminal. Tips entered on the terminal print on the receipt, and partial approvals ask for the balance.

Because the processor is your choice, you can compare offers. Send us a recent processing statement and we'll quote a rate. SeroPOS keeps approved card charges in an outbox until the sale is saved, so a dropped connection doesn't leave a charge without a sale. A duplicate-charge guard also warns before the same card is charged twice.

Restaurant and retail tools

For restaurants, SeroPOS includes kitchen tickets routed to the right printer, tables, takeout, a quick-service layout and Kiosk Mode in Standard, with the floor plan designer and multi-till on Pro. KDS Mode turns a tablet into a kitchen display. Held orders, split bills and reward points are built in, and types of service such as Dine In and Take Away can each carry a packing charge.

For shops, Retail Mode hides restaurant screens, and the back office handles lot numbers, expiry dates, serial and IMEI numbers, stock transfers and barcode labels on sticker sheets. Clover also offers restaurant and retail features, often through its app market; compare the specific tools you need. Barcode scanners work as keyboard input with no driver needed.

Switching from Clover

Most switches start with the product list. Export your items from Clover as a spreadsheet if it lets you, then match the columns to the SeroPOS product template and import it from the back office or the app's Import Products tool. Set categories, tax rates and modifiers first, so imported products land in the right place.

Before your first live day, run the 14-day trial on the devices you plan to use, connect your printer and card terminal, and do a few test sales and a refund. Check the end-of-day report against your test sales. If you need help, the in-app Live Support chat reaches our team from the Admin screen.

Frequently asked questions

Is SeroPOS a good Clover alternative?

It can be if you want to run your till on devices you already own or choose your own card processor. SeroPOS works with Global Payments, Moneris and Gravity Payments terminals. If you prefer an all-in-one device supplied by your bank, Clover may suit you better.

Can I keep my Clover hardware with SeroPOS?

SeroPOS doesn't run on Clover devices and doesn't connect to Clover terminals. It runs on Windows PCs, Macs, iPads, Android tablets and phones, and connects to Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments terminals. Check your Clover agreement before you switch.

Does SeroPOS have an app market like Clover?

No. SeroPOS has its own add-on modules instead: online ordering and QR, repair job sheets, hotel room booking, accounting and food delivery platforms, with a direct Uber Eats integration rolling out in Canada. QuickBooks and WooCommerce are part of the Pro plan.

How does SeroPOS pricing compare with Clover?

SeroPOS publishes two plans: Standard at $30 a month and Pro at $50 a month, each with a 14-day free trial and no card needed. We don't quote Clover's prices here because they change; check their site for current plans, hardware and processing costs, and compare the total for your setup.

Can I try SeroPOS before I switch?

Yes. Both plans have a 14-day free trial with no card needed, and the trial includes every feature. Download the app on a device you already own, add demo data or import your products from a spreadsheet, and run a few test sales before you change anything at your counter.
