POS for specialty food stores
A cheese shop or fine food store sells wheels cut to order, imported jars with best-before dates and house-made items that need costing. SeroPOS weighs the cut, records the lot and expiry of each wheel and works out what the house terrine really costs.

Lots on every wheel
Record the lot number and expiry of each wheel, side or case when it arrives.
Stop selling before the date
Choose to stop sales a set number of days before a lot expires.
Cut and weigh
Weighed items read the weight from a connected scale or take it from the keypad.
Recipe costing
On Pro, cost house-made dips, terrines and boxes from their ingredients.
Gift boxes
Sell a hamper or tasting box as a combo product that takes each item out of stock.
Trade and catering accounts

Lots and dates for the cheese counter
Turn on lot numbers and product expiry, and each purchase line records the lot, a production date and an expiry date. A wheel of aged cheddar, a side of prosciutto and a case of imported crackers each carry their own batch. Opening stock can carry lots too, so what is already in the cooler is recorded from day one.
Set On product expiry to stop selling a set number of days before the date, or keep selling if you prefer to manage it by eye. The Lot Report shows each lot's stock, units sold and units adjusted, and the Stock Expiry Report lists what is left with its date. Expired or trimmed stock comes off with a stock adjustment and a reason.

Cut to order, sold by weight
Tick Enable Weight on cheeses, charcuterie, olives and anything else you cut or scoop, and price it per kilogram or 100 grams. At the till, SeroPOS reads the weight from a connected USB, serial or network scale on Windows, Mac or Android, or asks for it on a keypad. The receipt shows the weight and price per unit.
Pre-cut pieces wrapped in the back are weighed again at the till or rung up with the weight typed from the pack, since the SeroPOS app does not scan scale-printed labels. Packaged jars and tins scan with their own barcodes. Labels printed from the back office can show the lot, expiry date and packing date beside the price.
Costing what you make
Recipes and production are on the Pro plan. Write a recipe for each house-made item, such as a pâté, a dip or a dressing, with its ingredients, quantities, a waste percentage and extra costs. SeroPOS calculates the cost from your latest purchase prices and can update the selling price from it, so a jump in butter prices shows up in your margin.
A production run records a batch: it uses up the ingredients, records any waste and adds the finished item to stock at its production cost. The Manufacturing Report totals what you made and what it cost, and that cost feeds into the Profit / Loss Report. Settings can lock ingredient quantities during production, so batches follow the recipe.
Hampers, gifts and trade accounts
Gift baskets and tasting boxes can be combo products: one item at one price that takes each jar, cracker and cheese out of stock when it sells. Discount rules run seasonal promotions on a brand or category between two dates. Customer profiles and reward points work for the regulars who come in every Friday.
Restaurants and caterers who buy from you can have a selling price group with trade prices, a credit limit and a pay term. Their orders can be invoices with delivery details, paid later through Receive Payment, and their ledger can be emailed as a statement at the end of the month.
Frequently asked questions
Can a specialty food POS track lots and expiry?
Yes. SeroPOS records the lot number and expiry date on each purchase line. The Lot Report shows stock and sales by lot, the Stock Expiry Report lists what is close to its date, and a setting can stop sales a number of days before expiry.
Can I sell cheese by weight?
Yes. Turn on Enable Weight for the product and price it per kilogram or 100 grams. The till reads the weight from a connected scale on Windows, Mac or Android, or staff key it in. Decimal quantities and the price per unit print on the receipt.
Can I cost house-made products?
Yes, with recipes on the Pro plan. List the ingredients and quantities, add waste and extra costs, and SeroPOS calculates the cost from your purchase prices. A production run uses up the ingredients and adds the finished product to stock at cost.
Can I sell gift hampers?
Yes. Create a combo product made of the items in the hamper and give it a price. When it sells, each item comes out of stock. For one-off custom hampers, staff can add the items individually and apply a discount.
What does SeroPOS cost for a specialty food store?
Standard is $30 a month for one location and three users. Pro is $50 a month with five users and adds recipes and production, CRM and QuickBooks. Both start with a 14-day free trial and no card is needed.
