What is QR code ordering?
QR code ordering lets guests scan a code to open your menu on their phone, build an order and send it straight to the POS.
With QR ordering, a printed code on a table tent, the counter or a window opens the business's online menu in the phone's browser. There is no app to download. The guest picks items and options, chooses how they want it (dine-in, takeout, pickup), pays online or chooses to pay at the counter, and the order appears in the POS like any other.
It helps most where staff time is the bottleneck: counter-service cafes with a long line, patios a server cannot reach quickly, hotel rooms, bars at peak, and food courts. It also lets guests take their time with a long menu and reorder without waiting. It suits full-service fine dining least, where the server's guidance is part of the experience.
To work well, the online menu has to match the POS menu, with the same items, prices, options and availability, and staff need a clear signal when an order arrives. Keep photos for the items that sell, mark out-of-stock items quickly, and test the whole journey on your own phone, including payment, before the codes go on tables.
In SeroPOS, QR ordering is part of the Online ordering & QR add-on module. Catalogue QR (Admin, then Tools in the app, or the back office) generates a code per location with your colour, title and logo. The menu shows your categories, variations, modifiers and banners, guests can order as a guest or sign in, pick a type of service and a table, and pay by the methods you enable for that location. New orders ring on the till's cloud icon ('Web Order Received') and staff move them to the cart.
A brunch spot puts a QR code on each of its 16 patio tables. A guest scans, orders two eggs benedict and a mimosa, picks Dine-in and Table 9 and pays at the end. The order rings on the counter till, staff tap View Order to bring it into the cart, and the kitchen ticket prints as normal.
