SeroPOS and Shopify POS at a glance

As of 2026, Shopify POS is Shopify's in-person selling app, running on iPads, iPhones, Android devices and Shopify's own POS hardware. It shares products, customers and inventory with a Shopify online store, and payments generally run through Shopify Payments where it is available. It is a strong fit for retailers whose main channel is a Shopify store.

SeroPOS is a standalone POS app for restaurants and shops, sold on monthly plans, with a web back office for products, stock and reports. It runs on Windows, Mac, iPad, Android and phones, connects to Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments terminals, and syncs with WooCommerce on the Pro plan.

Restaurants and food service

Shopify POS is built mainly for retail, as of 2026. SeroPOS has a full restaurant side: kitchen tickets routed to printers by category or product, tables and takeout, held orders, split bills, a quick-service grid, a floor plan designer on Pro, KDS Mode for a kitchen display and Kiosk Mode for self-ordering.

If you run a café with a retail shelf, or a bakery that also sells packaged goods, one SeroPOS till covers both. Types of service such as Dine In, Take Away and Delivery can each carry a packing or service charge, and the reports split sales by service type.

Retail inventory

For shops, SeroPOS's Retail Mode hides restaurant screens. The back office records lot numbers and expiry dates on purchases, reports stock left per lot, and can stop selling items a set number of days before they expire. Serial and IMEI numbers, warranties and rack, row and position per location are also supported.

Barcode labels print from the back office on sticker sheets or rolls. Stock transfers move goods between locations. Shopify POS has strong inventory tools tied to the online store, including transfers and purchase orders on some plans; compare the specifics for your products. Lot and expiry reports filter by location.

Online selling and payments

If your online store runs on WooCommerce rather than Shopify, SeroPOS Pro syncs categories and products, with variations, images, prices and stock, and pulls web orders into SeroPOS as sales. Order statuses map to sale and shipping statuses, and signed webhooks bring new orders in as they happen.

For card payments, SeroPOS connects to Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments terminals, so your processor is your choice. Send us a recent statement and we'll quote a rate. Shopify POS generally works best with Shopify Payments; check its site for the options in your country. Tips entered on the terminal print on the receipt.

Switching from Shopify POS

Most switches start with the product list. Export your items from Shopify POS as a spreadsheet if it lets you, then match the columns to the SeroPOS product template and import it from the back office or the app's Import Products tool. Set categories, tax rates and modifiers first, so imported products land in the right place.

Before your first live day, run the 14-day trial on the devices you plan to use, connect your printer and card terminal, and do a few test sales and a refund. Check the end-of-day report against your test sales. If you need help, the in-app Live Support chat reaches our team from the Admin screen.

Frequently asked questions

Is SeroPOS a good Shopify POS alternative?

It can be if you run a restaurant, café or food shop, need lot and expiry tracking, or sell online with WooCommerce instead of Shopify. If your business centres on a Shopify online store, Shopify POS's shared catalogue and inventory is a strong reason to stay with it.

Does SeroPOS work with WooCommerce?

Yes, on the Pro plan. Connect your store with REST keys, push categories and products with variations, images, prices and stock, and pull WooCommerce orders into SeroPOS as sales. Order statuses map to sale and shipping statuses, and webhooks bring new orders in as they happen.

Can SeroPOS handle a restaurant and a shop together?

Yes. The same app covers kitchen tickets, tables and kiosk for the food side, and barcode scanning, stock and labels for retail items. A till can also be switched to Retail Mode, which hides restaurant screens for a dedicated shop counter.

How does SeroPOS pricing compare with Shopify POS?

SeroPOS publishes two plans: Standard at $30 a month and Pro at $50 a month, each with a 14-day free trial and no card needed. We don't quote Shopify POS's prices here because they change; check their site for current plans, hardware and processing costs, and compare the total for your setup.

Can I try SeroPOS before I switch?

Yes. Both plans have a 14-day free trial with no card needed, and the trial includes every feature. Download the app on a device you already own, add demo data or import your products from a spreadsheet, and run a few test sales before you change anything at your counter.
