SeroPOS and Lightspeed Restaurant at a glance

As of 2026, Lightspeed Restaurant, part of the Montreal-based Lightspeed group, is an iPad-based POS with tiered plans, used widely in Canada, Europe and beyond. It offers its own payment processing, Lightspeed Payments, in supported markets, along with kitchen display, online ordering and multi-location reporting. It is a mature, well-supported choice for table-service restaurants.

SeroPOS is a POS app for restaurants and shops, sold on monthly plans and installed from the app stores on Windows, Mac, iPad, Android and phones. It connects to card terminals from Moneris and Global Payments in Canada and Gravity Payments in the US, so you choose your processor separately from your till.

Floor plans and table service

Both systems handle table service. In SeroPOS, the floor plan designer on Pro lets you lay out rooms and tables, and the till shows which tables are open. Orders can be held and resumed by table, kitchen tickets print on HOLD, and bills can be split evenly, by percentage, by item or by custom amounts.

Waiter mode assigns orders to service staff, and the Service Staff Report shows orders per server. On Pro, Server / Client mode shares one database across tills on your network, so the floor plan, held orders and kitchen display stay in step between the bar, the floor and the kitchen.

Kitchen display and QR ordering

SeroPOS's KDS Mode turns a tablet or PC into a kitchen board with timing counters, station chips, an All Day panel and a Recall panel. Kitchen tickets can also print to separate printers by category, product or food type. New tickets chime and stay highlighted for a few seconds, and an Admin or Manager login is needed to leave KDS Mode.

The online ordering module adds a QR menu and an online ordering site for each location, with your logo, variations, modifiers and combos. Orders land in the POS queue for staff to accept. Lightspeed Restaurant also offers kitchen display and online ordering; compare the details on its current site.

Devices and payments

Lightspeed Restaurant runs on iPads, as of 2026. If your counter already has a Windows touchscreen PC or Android tablets, SeroPOS can use them, and it also runs on iPad and Mac. The Global Payments T650P handheld can run SeroPOS directly for table-side ordering and payment. Each till can have its own card terminal.

For cards, SeroPOS connects to Moneris Go and Global Payments terminals, popular choices in Canada, and Gravity Payments in the US. Tips entered on the terminal print on the receipt. Send us a recent statement and we'll quote a processing rate. If a card is approved but the sale doesn't save, SeroPOS keeps the approval and records it again.

Switching from Lightspeed Restaurant

Most switches start with the product list. Export your items from Lightspeed Restaurant as a spreadsheet if it lets you, then match the columns to the SeroPOS product template and import it from the back office or the app's Import Products tool. Set categories, tax rates and modifiers first, so imported products land in the right place.

Before your first live day, run the 14-day trial on the devices you plan to use, connect your printer and card terminal, and do a few test sales and a refund. Check the end-of-day report against your test sales. If you need help, the in-app Live Support chat reaches our team from the Admin screen.
