SeroPOS and Lavu at a glance

As of 2026, Lavu is an iPad-based restaurant POS from the US, used by bars, cafés, quick-service restaurants and food trucks. It offers table layouts, a kitchen display, online ordering and its own payment processing, and it has been around for many years in the iPad POS space.

SeroPOS is a POS app for restaurants and shops, sold on monthly plans. It runs on Windows, Mac, iPad, Android and phones, and connects to card terminals from Global Payments and Gravity Payments in the US and Moneris in Canada. Kiosk Mode and KDS Mode are built into the same app.

Floor plans and bar service

SeroPOS's floor plan designer on Pro lays out rooms and tables, and the till shows which are open. Held orders keep a tab running, kitchen tickets print when an order is held, and bills split evenly, by percentage, by item or by custom amounts, with mixed cash and card legs.

Products can be priced tax-in, which helps at a bar, and modifier groups handle mixers and add-ons. Waiter mode assigns orders to service staff. Lavu also offers floor layouts and bar features; compare the specifics on its current site. Each user's sales show in the reports, so you can see who served what.

Kitchen display and kiosk

KDS Mode turns a tablet or PC into a kitchen board with On time, Attention and Late counters, station chips, an All Day panel of totals to cook and a Recall panel for bumped tickets. Kitchen tickets can also print to separate printers by category, product or food type.

Kiosk Mode, included in Standard, gives customers a full-screen self-order screen with variations, required and optional modifiers and card payment on your terminal. For food trucks, the app keeps selling offline and uploads sales when the connection returns. Exiting the kiosk needs an Admin or Manager login, so customers can't leave the ordering screen.

Devices and payments

Lavu runs on iPads, as of 2026. SeroPOS runs on iPads too, as well as Windows PCs, Macs, Android tablets, phones and the Global Payments T650P handheld, which can take the order and the card on one device at the table or the truck window. Printers connect over the network, USB or Bluetooth.

SeroPOS sends the amount to the terminal and tips entered there print on the receipt. Send us a recent processing statement and we'll quote a rate. Lavu generally offers its own processing; check its site for the options it supports. If a card is approved but the sale doesn't save, SeroPOS keeps the approval in an outbox and records it again.

Switching from Lavu

Most switches start with the product list. Export your items from Lavu as a spreadsheet if it lets you, then match the columns to the SeroPOS product template and import it from the back office or the app's Import Products tool. Set categories, tax rates and modifiers first, so imported products land in the right place.

Before your first live day, run the 14-day trial on the devices you plan to use, connect your printer and card terminal, and do a few test sales and a refund. Check the end-of-day report against your test sales. If you need help, the in-app Live Support chat reaches our team from the Admin screen.

Frequently asked questions

Is SeroPOS a good Lavu alternative?

It can be if you want to run your POS on Windows PCs or Android tablets as well as iPads, or choose your own card processor. SeroPOS includes a kitchen display, Kiosk Mode in Standard and a floor plan designer on Pro. Lavu is a long-running iPad option for bars and restaurants.

Does SeroPOS work for a food truck?

Yes. SeroPOS runs on tablets, phones and the Global Payments T650P handheld, keeps selling offline and uploads sales when the connection returns. Kitchen tickets print over Bluetooth or network printers. Card terminals need their own connection to approve payments.

Can SeroPOS run a bar tab?

Yes. Hold the order to keep a tab open, add rounds through the night and resume it from Held Sales or the table. When the guest is ready, split the bill if needed and take payment on the terminal, with any tip entered there printed on the receipt.

How does SeroPOS pricing compare with Lavu?

SeroPOS publishes two plans: Standard at $30 a month and Pro at $50 a month, each with a 14-day free trial and no card needed. We don't quote Lavu's prices here because they change; check their site for current plans, hardware and processing costs, and compare the total for your setup.

Can I try SeroPOS before I switch?

Yes. Both plans have a 14-day free trial with no card needed, and the trial includes every feature. Download the app on a device you already own, add demo data or import your products from a spreadsheet, and run a few test sales before you change anything at your counter.
