Switching from a cash register to a POS
An old cash register rings sales and opens the drawer, but it can't tell you what sold, what is left or who was on shift. SeroPOS keeps the familiar parts, the scanner, the receipt and the drawer, and adds the records you have been keeping on paper.
Switching from cash registers in SeroPOS
Import from Excel
Load your price list from a spreadsheet instead of programming PLUs one by one.
Scan barcodes
A USB scanner types into the product search, and the camera works on phones and tablets.
Receipts as before
Print to network, USB or Bluetooth receipt printers in 58 or 80 mm widths.
Keep the cash drawer
A cash drawer plugged into the receipt printer opens on cash sales and from the Open button.
Z report at close
Print the DAILY SALES REPORT / Z REPORT with sales, tips, payouts and payments by method.
Shifts per cashier
Open the register with a float and close it with the counted cash, one session per person.
From PLU keys to a product list
A cash register keeps prices in PLU keys or departments. SeroPOS keeps them as products with a name, SKU, barcode, category, price and tax. If you have your prices in a spreadsheet, or can export them, download the product template from Admin Tools or the back office, fill it in and import it. Opening stock has its own import if you want to start counting inventory too.
Departments become categories, and the till shows them as buttons with your products inside. Items without barcodes can be coloured so staff find them at a glance, and open-price items cover the department key you used for anything unusual. Add Demo Data first if you want to practise before importing your own list.

Keep the hardware that works
Most of the hardware around a cash register works with a POS. USB barcode scanners act as keyboards and type into the search field, with no driver needed. ESC/POS receipt printers connect over the network, USB, Bluetooth or the Windows print spooler, in 58, 72 or 80 mm widths, and Auto-detect finds them on Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth in one scan.
A cash drawer that plugs into the receipt printer opens when a receipt prints on a cash sale, and from the Open button on the till. The till itself is a Windows PC, a Mac, an iPad or an Android tablet, so you may already own one. Card terminals from Global Payments, Moneris and Gravity Payments take the amount directly from the sale.
Closing the day without the paper roll
Each cashier opens the register with the cash float and closes it with the counted total. At the end of the day, the DSR prints a DAILY SALES REPORT / Z REPORT on the receipt printer with bills, gross and net sales, discounts, returns, payouts, tips, payments by method, item and category sales and product taxes. Pick Today, Yesterday or any date range.
The back office keeps every register session in the Register Report, with the user, open and close times, cash, card slips and the closing note. The daily sales report can be emailed to you every night after closing, so you don't need to be in the shop to know how the day went.
What you get that a register never had
Every sale takes stock off, so the Stock Report shows what is left and the dashboard flags products below their alert quantity. Each staff member has their own login and role, so refunds, voids and discounts can need a manager's password. Recent Transactions finds any past sale to reprint, refund or void.
Profit / Loss, Trending Products and the Product Sell Report show what earns money and when. Customers can be saved with their contact details and reward points. Standard is $30 a month for one location and three users, with a 14-day free trial and no card to start. Pro at $50 adds advanced reports, CRM and QuickBooks when you need them.
Frequently asked questions
Should I replace my cash register with a POS?
If you want to know what sold, what is left and who was on shift without counting by hand, a POS pays off quickly. SeroPOS keeps the scanner, receipt and drawer you know, adds stock, staff logins and reports, and starts at $30 a month with a 14-day free trial.
Can I keep my cash drawer?
Usually, yes. A cash drawer that connects to an ESC/POS receipt printer opens when SeroPOS prints a receipt on a cash sale, and from the Open button on the till. Drawers that need their own connection to the computer may not work.
How do I move my prices from the old register?
Export or type your price list into the SeroPOS product template, then import it from Admin Tools or the back office. Departments become categories. If you can't export from the register, enter the most-used products first and add the rest as they sell.
Does SeroPOS print a Z report?
Yes. The DSR in the side menu prints a DAILY SALES REPORT / Z REPORT for any period, with sales, discounts, returns, payouts, tips, payments by method and item sales. There is no separate X report, but you can print the DSR for today at any time during the day.
Do I need a new computer?
Not necessarily. SeroPOS runs on Windows PCs, Macs, iPads, Android tablets and phones. Check your receipt printer connects by network, USB or Bluetooth and speaks ESC/POS, and most setups can reuse what you already have. Run a test print during the free trial to be sure.
