POS system for Yukon businesses
Yukon has no territorial sales tax, so the tax side of a SeroPOS setup is one GST rate. The more important part is a till that keeps selling when the line to Whitehorse or the highway lodge drops.
Yukon in SeroPOS
GST at 5%
Yukon has no territorial sales tax, so one GST rate set as the default covers most sales.
0% for zero-rated items
Basic groceries and other zero-rated items take a 0% rate, shown clearly on receipts.
Sells offline
Each sale is saved on the device first and uploaded when the connection returns, retrying in the background.
Nothing gets dropped
A sale that can't upload is parked and kept on the till until it can be sent, never discarded.
Card terminals
Interac debit, tap and credit on Moneris Go or Global Payments terminals, with the amount sent from the till.
GST for your return
The Tax Report shows GST on sales against GST on purchases and expenses for your filing period.
Yukon sales tax at a glance
Yukon businesses charge GST at 5%, registered and filed with the Canada Revenue Agency. There is no territorial sales tax on top, so a Whitehorse café and a Dawson City gift shop use the same single rate for most sales. Your GST number can print on every receipt.
Basic groceries are zero-rated, and some services are exempt. Restaurant meals, snack foods and most retail goods are taxable at 5%. Confirm the current rate and the rules for your products with the CRA as of 2026. Some other levies may apply to particular businesses, so check with the Yukon government if you are unsure.
Setting up GST in SeroPOS
In the back office go to Settings, then Tax Rates, and add GST at 5%. Add a 0% rate for zero-rated and exempt items, with a clear name such as "Zero-rated". In the SeroPOS app the same list is under Admin, then Taxes, where you can make GST the default so every new product starts with it.
No tax group is needed. Assign GST or 0% to each product as you add it, or fill the tax column in a spreadsheet and import the whole catalogue. Products priced tax-in can be marked "price includes tax". Your GST registration number can print in the receipt header from the app's Edit Restaurant screen.
- GST 5%: the default for taxable sales
- 0%: zero-rated groceries and exempt items
Selling when the connection drops
Internet in parts of Yukon can slow down or drop for hours. The SeroPOS app doesn't wait for it. Each sale is saved on the device with its own reference and uploaded every few seconds in the background, backing off when the line is down. An indicator on the till shows whether it is online.
After repeated failures a sale is parked on the device and kept, never thrown away, until it can be sent. Kitchen tickets and receipts print from local printers while offline. A few screens need the internet, such as the Daily Sales Report and Recent Transactions, and Sync DataBase in the drawer forces a full sync once you are back.
Tourist season and extra tills
Summer visitors can double the line at a Whitehorse café or a roadside stop. Extra users can be added to a plan at $10 a month for three, so seasonal staff each get their own login and their sales show under their name in the reports. Each user can have a role that limits what they can do at the till.
On the Pro plan, Server / Client mode lets several tills share one database over the local network, with a Windows PC as the server. Held orders, the floor plan and the kitchen display are shared, and the tills keep working together even if the outside internet is down.
Card terminals that talk to the till
In Yukon most customers pay by Interac debit or tap, so the card terminal matters as much as the till. SeroPOS works with Moneris Go terminals and with Global Payments, either through Global Pay Cloud, which needs no cable or IP address, or with SeroPOS running on the Global Payments T650P handheld itself through Terminal Plus.
Each till can have its own terminal, set under Card Terminal for This Till, so a front counter and a bar charge on separate devices. Tips entered on the terminal print on the receipt, partial approvals ask for the balance on another card or in cash, and Close Batch prints a day-end summary from the till.
Already have a merchant account? Keep it if your processor is supported. If you want to compare costs, send us a recent statement and we'll quote a rate. Card processing is arranged separately from your SeroPOS plan. Tell us your monthly card volume and the terminals you use today, and we can say which setup fits your counter before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a sales tax in Yukon besides GST?
No. As of 2026 Yukon has no territorial sales tax, so most sales carry only the 5% federal GST, filed with the Canada Revenue Agency. Zero-rated items such as basic groceries are taxed at 0%. Check with the Yukon government whether any other levy applies to your business.
Does SeroPOS work without internet?
Yes, for selling. Sales are saved on the device and uploaded when the connection returns, and kitchen tickets and receipts still print. Card payments need the terminal to reach its processor, and some reports need the internet. Check the Daily Sales Report once you are back online.
Can several tills work together if the internet is down?
Yes, on the Pro plan. Server / Client mode shares one database across tills on your local network, with a Windows PC as the server. Client tills store sales on the server, so held orders and tables are shared even without outside internet. Sales go to the cloud when the line returns.
Are these Yukon tax rates current?
The rates on this page are the well-known public rates as of 2026. Rates and exemptions change, so confirm them with the Canada Revenue Agency before you open, and again whenever a budget is announced. In SeroPOS a rate is stored once and reused by every product and group, so a change is a single edit.
How much does SeroPOS cost in Canada?
Standard is $30 a month and Pro is $50 a month, with a 14-day free trial and no card needed. Standard covers the full POS for one location and three users. Pro adds the floor plan designer, multi-till, CRM, recipes, advanced reports, QuickBooks and WooCommerce.
